Spring and Thorndike Streets will have closures select days during the week of June 3

Week of June 3, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

This will be the final weekly project construction update you will receive directly for the 40 Thorndike Project Construction Update. The activities below are for the week of June 3 and beyondActivities will occur on Saturdays starting at 9:00 AM. 

Please note: Updates to last week’s content and / or impactful activities are bolded. The timing of work might fluctuate by a week or so, to accommodate influx site logistics or make use of the opportunity to shorten durations.

Interior Work:

  • Elevator installation is complete.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) start-up activities will continue in the mechanical penthouse.
  • Fire protection and all other life safety building systems are complete and accepted by the City.
  • Punchlist finish work is ongoing place throughout the building.

Exterior Work: 

  • Crews will clean up debris during windy, work days.
  • Thorndike Street will be closed during work hours through Tuesday, June 4 to accommodate boom lifts.
  • Paving Second and Spring Streets will occur the week of June 10. 
  • Work will finish up in Pocket Park, off Second Street this week.
  • Sidewalks will be poured on Wednesday, June 5 and Monday, June 10 inside the site with concrete trucks on the street
  • Spring Street will be closed the week of June 3 for tree deliveries and landscaping and again on Monday, June 10 to accommodate a concrete pump.
  • Placement of soils and grading will occur in the sallyport.
  • Placing concrete footings, infills and stairs will continue as landscaping finishes up.
  • Granite pavers and stairs are being installed at the sallyport.
  • Terracotta is finishing being installed in all areas.
  • The fence line on Spring Street has been reconfigured into the street, taking one side of street parking offline. This new reconfiguration will be in place through the completion of the project, currently scheduled for late June 2024.
  • Trucks exiting the site continue to use Second Street to Thorndike Street to minimize traffic through the neighborhood.
  • Security cameras have been installed on site. Please rest assured that camera video footage will only cover areas within the property line. Security system audio concerns has been addressed.
  • Concrete placements and paving are weather dependent activities and may be rescheduled accordingly.

  • We have formed a Construction Advisory Committee made up of abutters and a member of the local small business community. Our last meeting took place on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Thank you to those who joined any of the meetings to actively participate in the project and ask questions.
