Crane on Spring Street week of 4/8

A crane will be on Spring Street the week of April 22 to remove mast climbers from the building. Spring Street will be closed during these activities. This work is weather dependent. Crews will sweep the street after this work is complete.

Week of April 29, 2024

Below is the 40 Thorndike Project Construction Update for the week of April 29Activities will occur on Saturdays starting at 9:00 AM.

Please note: Updates to last week’s content and / or impactful activities are bolded. The timing of work might fluctuate by a week or so, to accommodate influx site logistics or make use of the opportunity to shorten durations.

Interior Work:

  • Elevator installation and inspection is underway.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) start-up activities taking place in the mechanical penthouse.
  • Fire protection and other building systems’ testing will occur for the next few weeks.
  • Punchlist finish work is taking place throughout the building.

Exterior Work:

  • Please note, activity will be taking place at all site gates periodically throughout the project. The location of work areas is subject to change. 
  • Crews will clean up debris during windy days.
  • Thorndike Street may experience periodic closures for deliveries or other necessary activities through the duration of the project.
  • A crane is scheduled to be on Spring Street Friday, April 26 and Monday, April 29 during working hours to remove mast climbers from the building. A crane will also be on site on Wednesday, May 1 to lift materials to the Level 5 roof. Spring Street will be closed during these activities. This work is weather dependent. Crews will sweep the street after this work is complete.
  • A concrete pump truck will be on site on Thursday, May 2 to assist in pouring the Level 5 topping slab.
  • Paving of Second and Spring Streets is scheduled for early May, date TBD.
  • Pouring of the sidewalks on Spring and Third Streets inside the site fence will continue through the week of April 29.
  • Work will begin in Pocket Park, off Second Street, with a planned pedestrian shift on Monday, April 29.
  • Placing concrete footings, infills and stairs as landscaping continues.
  • Drainage activities are ongoing in the sallyport.
  • Installation of a storefront, and metal panels are ongoing on Level 1 and Level 14.
  • Roofing is finishing up.
  • Granite pavers and stairs are being installed on Thorndike Street and at the sallyport.
  • Terracotta is being installed on the south elevation at the hoist section leaveout.
  • The fence line on Spring Street has been reconfigured into the street, taking one side of street parking offline. This new reconfiguration will be in place through the completion of the project, currently scheduled for the end of May 2024.
  • Trucks exiting the site continue to use Second Street to Thorndike Street to minimize traffic through the neighborhood.
  • Security cameras have been installed on site. Please rest assured that camera video footage will only cover areas within the property line. Security system audio concerns has been addressed.

  • We have formed a Construction Advisory Committee made up of abutters and a member of the local small business community.
